Weigh In: Plateau?
Pretty much no change at all from last week. Body fat % crept up.
I’m struggling to get out of the 180s.
Next week I need to tighten up the diet I think.

Weigh In: Dodged a Bullet
This past week I have struggled a little bit with nutrition, but didn’t make any major transgressions until yesterday. Last night I missed a gym session due to travel issues, got home and suddenly thought to myself: “You know what would be fun? Just to eat and eat and eat lots of tasty food,”.
Cue eating lots of chaat, and drinking lots of diet coke. That wasnt the end of it of course, because I also ate two icecreams in the course of that night.
This morning I felt pretty awful, and was dreading the weigh-in. This time I got lucky and still saw a loss - which kind of makes me wonder what would have happened if I didnt have the binge last night. Also I am still in the 180s, my weight fluctuating a bit under it and then coming back up.
I need to really get my focus back to smash out of the 180s.

In imperial units that weigh-in means I have finally (just) broken under the 13 stone mark (12 stone 13 to be more accurate). This is a good milestone.
Now the work goes on to first get out of the 180s, and then down to 12 stone (losing another 13 lbs). Thats the nice thing about using more than one set of metrics… it can help focus you with both longer and shorter term goals.
So despite having made a good milestone in the weigh-in I spent the rest of the weekend eating very badly. I had better go and update the blog with exactly what I ate…

I was pleased with today’s weigh-in. Pretty much undid the damage done in the 2 weeks away. A nice start to resuming training and the nutrition plan.

Weigh In: Under a Grey Sky
So I finally am back in the not-so-sunny UK (to be fair, it’s a bit nicer than normal right now).
I knew today’s weigh in would be “interesting”. Whilst in the U.S. I ate a lot of bad things. I even broke my no chocolate and no cake rule more than a few times. Oh, and did I mention the mojitos and beer I drank? Those goddamned mojitos eh?!
And I did no exercise apart from a lot of walking around. So I knew there would be weight gain involved in this week’s weigh in. The only question is, just how bad would it be?

My reaction to the numbers on the scale? Relief.
I knew things could be so much worse. In fact I think back to Week 6 of this year where I gained about 6lbs in 1 week.
I also have some other things I gained from the 2 week trip:
- Professional motivation and inspiration. Hanging out with some of the best engineers in the business at WWDC, and feeling the sheer creative energy and enthusiasm in the environment was awesome. I’ll be trying to hold on to that feeling until the next WWDC, and using it to add more awesome into my upcoming apps.
- Fitness motivation and inspiration. There are lots of good looking people in California. Men and women. And on more than one occasion I just left the cookie or muffin I had bought in a cafe because I saw someone running outside.
- Chocolates, cakes, gelatto, mojitos etc. Sure they are fun in the moment. But that moment is very, very short indeed. I’m not feeling a craving for any of that stuff right now. The first time I totally caved in on the nutrition front was when I was pretty drunk. There you go kids - alcohol leads to bad decisions!
So the next two days I am going to ease myself back into my normal nutrition plan. Monday I will be hitting the gym again. And of course, I will be working on my apps with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.

I could let myself be disappointed by this, seeing as I am STILL not 182 or under. Despite eating pretty damned clean all week and busting my ass at the gym.
But on the flip side, I am a lot fitter, feel slimmer and am making progress. Body fat is coming off. So there’ll be no emo binge eating because the number I want on a scale didnt come up,.
Weigh In: Hell. Yes.
So even before I weighed in I was feeling pretty good, thinking I look slimmer. So I figured, no matter what the scales say I should be pretty happy.

I did a double take. Took multiple readings. And its official, I’m now 13 stone 2 lbs (184 lbs). I am assuming the fluctuation in weight last week was due to poor diet and even worse sleeping patterns.
I havent been this weight in a long time. There’s still plenty of work to do, but its a good feeling to be here. I’m going to savour it this weekend, use it to load up on motivation for more training, better nutrition (more protein is the mission) and to set myself up to smash some personal records.

A little bit of Body Fat % loss?
Not happy. And yes I did just add a +/- of Body Fat column to the table this week. And yes I did do it just so I could feel a bit better about this week’s weigh-in. Bah.
Why I gained this week:
- crappy sleep cycle this week. Really, really bad.
- been slack on the nutrition front.
- lots of fruit juice
- late night snacking habit
- bread and other carbs
- exercise: only twice this week, and one of those workouts wasn’t too intense.
- in short I have not been focussed this week. Haven’t even been logging my food choices consistently on my app.
A whole lot of slack. Next week will have to be better.

Not even a whole pound.
I wonder if this is because of:
- general lack of sleep during the week
- lack of running in my exercise this week
- not being as consistent with the nutrition plan (eg: drank lots of juice this week)
- last nights carb blowout
Next week all of the above will be dealt with. Here is the plan:
- need to sort out my sleep cycle this weekend…
- …so I can start the early morning training sessions at the gym (7am urgh) which include running
- need to buy some berocca pills. These will let me have a fizzy, flavoured drink instead of reaching for the juice.
- avoiding a carb blowout is just going to take more discipline and better meal planning. Eat more early in the day, and less as the day goes on.
Still having said all that, a loss is a loss. Going in the the right direction and next week will be even better.
